Photographer Catherine Orr Deas specialises in Maternity, Newborn, Cake Smash and Child & Family Photography
Catherine has been working as a specialist baby and family photographer for 15 years and was inspired to begin her journey into baby and child photography by the joy she experienced when photographing her own son. Catherine understands the importance of working in a baby and child friendly context to provide a safe and relaxed environment for her clients. Catherine's experience in working with newborn babies means that new parents can relax during newborn photography sessions and let her do all the work. Parents will only need to feed and change their babies, pose for photographs and input into the selection of outfits and props.
The Chiswick Child Photography Studio has a large range of maternity photography backdrops and an array of beautiful pregnancy dresses, gowns and fabrics to celebrate the joy of pregnancy plus a wide selection of newborn props and outfits and cake smash backdrops, outfits and set ups.
The studio is based in Chiswick, West London and allows for a combination of natural and professional Profoto studio lighting (gentle on young eyes).
There are nearby public transport links and there are pay by phone or app parking bays available. Chiswick Child Photography is within easy travel reach for clients in Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, Acton, Chelsea, Barnes, Shepherds Bush, Kensington, Harrow, Richmond and other locations in West London.
Catherine also provides location photography on request.
The studio is kept at a warm temperature to ensure comfort for babies.
Newborn Photography
Catherine has been photographing newborn babies for 15 years and is therefore very experienced in settling, posing and photographing newborn babies so that sessions are relaxing for newborn babies and new parents. The studio has a multitude of newborn wraps/hats/headbands/props (plus a range of New Mama Gowns) so there is no need to bring outfit changes for your baby.
Newborn Photography Sessions should ideally take place when your baby is 6-21 days old. This is because babies retain their "newborn curl"/womb position until they are around ten days old and are usually much deep sleepers during the first three weeks which makes posing them for a variety beautiful sleeping baby images much easier.
If you have already missed the the ideal age window and have a slightly older baby (3-8 weeks) it is still possible to get lovely sleeping photographs if the session is timed appropriately and your baby is not experiencing colic.
I generally recommend that parents give their baby a main feed before leaving home (if local) and then provide top up feeds as needed during the session as this helps newborns to settle to sleep during the session.
Maternity Photography
Catherine has an array of beautiful maternity dresses, gowns and fabrics with which to create beautiful maternity photographs that celebrate the beauty and joy of pregnancy.
Maternity/Pregnancy Photography sessions are ideally done when mums-to-be are 29 - 36 weeks pregnant and have a good sized baby bump with less risk of stretch marks, fluid retention and/or late pregnancy fatique. These packages include the use of a wide variety of specialist maternity photography gowns, dresses, wraps and silks in an array of different fabrics and colours designed to show the beauty and joy of pregnancy. Angel Wings sessions can also be booked on request. Larger package can include partners and children (the latter just for the first half an hour of the session).
Cake Smash & Bath Splash Photography
Cake Smash Photography is suitable for one year old babies (and can also work well for two year olds who like cake) as a celebration of this milestone birthday.
Catherine's Cake Smash & Splash Photography Sessions include a few pre cake smash parent & baby portraits plus a photograph of the baby in a vintage suitcase and the baby sitting next to I AM ONE themed balloon filled boxes. The cake smash is the main part of the session and the baby will be given a beautiful professionally made cake (parents choose the style and colour beforehand and it is possible to request allergen free from cakes) to do as they please with. Some babies eat the icing, some babies play with the cake, some babies smash the cake and any left overs can be taken home to enjoy. This session also includes a bubble bath session in a miniature free standing claw foot bath so that parents can take home a clean baby at the end of the session and the baby gets to enjoy the bubbles. Lots of opportunity for fun and the session price includes a delicious colourful cake made by a professional cake maker plus additional props and a huge selection of different backdrops and outfits. Baby Girls can also wear one of my couture baby dresses for the pre cake smash baby portrait photograph.
Child & Family Photography
The studio has a range of different themed and neutral backdrops that work well for child and family photoshoots as well as a selection of baby and child handmade couture dresses for girls age 1-10.
Clients can view their full edited images on a private web gallery so that image selections can be made at leisure from your own home.
Most packages include two sets of jpg images on a USB - one high resolution set suitable for printing and an identical low resolution set suitable for email and/or social network sites. Additional images may also be given free of charge in exchange for permission to use some of the images taken for the gallery pages of this website and/or for Chiswick Child Photography adverts/publicity.
Clients can also order high quality photography artwork and products not available on the high street.
Catherine always aims to create a wide variety of photographs on the day in order to ensure plenty of choice when making selections but it is helpful if clients can view the gallery pages before coming in order to let her know approximately 5 of their preferred "priority shots". Catherine is also open to suggestions from clients about the style of photographs they would like.
Catherine also has lots of experience in photographing social events such as weddings, christenings and baptisms and baby showers.
Please note that clients are politely requested not to take their own photographs or to use video recording during sessions.
Catherine does not give out or show Raw unedited images and is experienced in choosing the best photographs from each set taken during a photoshoot for individual editing.
